Cameras on Mobile Phones Have Come a Long Way over the Past Decade but, they still Can’t Take Photos with the Same Quality as What our Eyes Can See. Most Photos, Especially those Taken on Mobile Phones, Look Great in Well-Lit Conditions but, Once it Starts to Get Dark, you End Up with a Lot of Blurry and Fuzzy Images. Sony May Have Fixed Some of these Issues by Creating a Better Camera Sensor, Curved like the Human Eye, that Lets in More Light and Gives your Photos Sharper Detail.
Sony Unveiled their New Camera Sensor at the Symposium on VLSI Technology in Hawaii this Week. The Sensor is Based on the Natural Curvature of the Human Eye. In a Standard Camera, Light Hits the Sensor at Flat Angles, which Results in Blurry Images, Particularly Around the Edges.
With Sony’s New Sensor, Light Strikes the Sensor Equally, Resulting in an Image that’s Much Clearer. This New Sensor also Allows for Cameras to Have Larger Lens Apertures, which Means More Light Comes into the Sensor, Making Photos in Low Light Conditions Appear as Clear as those Taken with Plenty of Light.
Although Sony has Only Made about 100 Sensors so Far, if All Goes Well, Expect them to Show Up in Consumer Devices Soon: they Have Versions Made that will Work Well Not just in Compact Cameras but, also in Mobile Phones. Considering that, this is the 1st Fundamental Structural Breakthrough in Camera Sensor Technology in Ages, we Might Finally be at the Point Where Mobile Phone Photos Look as Good as those Taken by Actual Cameras.
