Google's Nexus Program is Reportedly Winding Down with Talk of Android Silver Replacing it. And while Google has Previously Tapped ASUS and Samsung to Produce its Nexus-Branded Tablets, HTC is Said to be Next in Line.
HTC, an Early Android Ally, is in Dire Straits. The Taiwanese Company has Proven it's Capable of Making Fantastic Smartphones with Premium Fit and Finish but, it just Can't Seem to Click with Customers. HTC Doesn't Have a Design Problem, it has Marketing Problem. It Simply Doesn't Have the Same Amount of Resources to Outspend Samsung and Apple.
With a Little Help from Google, HTC Might be Able to Claw its Way Back into Relevance. Android Police Received a Scoop Detailing an 8.9-In Nexus Tablet (Codenamed, "Voltanis" or "Flounder"). According to the Android-Focused Blog, the "Nexus 9" will Have an Aluminum-Construction, 8.9-Inch Screen with 2048 x 1440 Resolution, NVIDIA Tegra K1 64-Bit Processor, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of Internal Storage, 8-Megapixel Rear Camera with Optical Image Stabilization and 3-Megapixel Front Camera, Front-Facing Stereo Speakers (a Staple on Almost All of HTC's Primary Devices).
Battery Life is Unknown at this Time.
Particularly Interesting is that, NVIDIA Tegra K1 GPU, which is Based on the Company's Kepler Architecture Found on Gaming PCs. If that's Lost on you, then just Know this: K1 Can Run Unreal Engine 4. (See Video Demo with Awesome Lighting Effects, here (1)) With Google Leading the Way, Gaming on Android, Could Get a 2nd Lease on Life. (After the Ouya Trainwreck, People Haven't Looked at Android as a Viable Gaming Platform, since.)
Android Police Says, Google will Price the Nexus Tablet at $399 (16GB) and $499 (32GB). 4G LTE-Ready Models will, of Course, Cost a Little More.
While it's Possible Google will Announce the Nexus Tablet at Google I/O on Wednesday, the Blog Says, it May Not Make an Appearance until we Get Closer to its Launch Later this Year.
Currently, Google has a 7-Inch Nexus 7 Made by ASUS and a 10.1-Inch Nexus 10 Made by Samsung. A "Nexus 9" with a 8.9-Inch Display would Fit Perfectly within Google's Nexus Tablet Lineup. I just Really Hope that, Nexus Logo Isn't as Big as the Mock-Up Render below (which is Based on a Leaked Photo) Looks. What's with the Big-Ass Logos ? It's Tacky.
