Microsoft is Closing its Research Lab in Silicon Valley

Earlier Today, Microsoft Confirmed that, it had Cut an Additional 2100 Employees and it Looks Like Some of those Individuals were Based in Silicon Valley at the Company's Research Center. According to Derek Murray, whose Tweet is Posted below, his Office is Being Shut Down and the Last Day of Operation will be Tomorrow. The Office is Located in Mountain View, California and has been around since 2001. According to the Office's Website, the Lab was Focused on "distributed computing and includes privacy, security, protocols, fault-tolerance, large-scale systems, concurrency, computer architecture, Internet search and services and related theory". Microsoft Said that, there are about 50 Employees at that Office, despite the Website Saying that, there are 75 and Many of them will be Offered Jobs Elsewhere within Microsoft. Mary Jo Foley, Who Got a Comment on the Closure, was Told that, Microsoft still has 2500 Employees Working Down in the Valley. The Closure of the Office is Being Described by Microsoft as a "Consolidation of the West Coast Labs" and if there were Only 50 People Working in that Office, it was a Relatively Small Venue for the Company. We will Likely Hear More about Where the Cuts Came from as the Day Rolls on; if you Hear Something First, Make Sure to Send us a Tip.
