At 1st, Audiences Recognized "The Mummy" as a Classic 1932 Horror Film starring Boris Karloff as the Man Who was Mummified Alive. A Few Reboots Later, Most People Better Know "The Mummy" as the 1999 Adventure starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. But Soon we May Come to Know "The Mummy" as the Movie Directed by ... Alex Kurtzman. According to Coming Soon, Kurtzman is in Final Talks to Helm the Movie, which will be Co-Produced with Chris Morgan and Scheduled for a 2016 Release. This Incarnation of "The Mummy" has had a Tortured Past, with an Announcement in 2012 for an Anticipated Release Date of ... 2014. This May, "The Mummy" Lost its Director, Andy Muschett, over Creative Differences. Although Kurtzman has Created, Written and / or Produced Popular Films (Cowboys & Aliens, Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness) and TV Shows (Fringe, Sleepy Hollow), he has Only Directed One Feature Film, the 2012 Drama, People Like Us.
Obviously, Someone in Charge has a Great Deal of Faith in Kurtzman's Abilities. This is an Important Movie, Not for Kurtzman but, for Universal Studios: "The Mummy" will be the 1st in a Line of Rebooted Horror Classics. Coming Soon Writes, "… Kurtzman and Morgan will be bringing all the classic Universal monsters together to form a cohesive cinematic universe". In Other Words, we'll be Seeing Something Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe but, with Universal Monsters, like the Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Invisible Man instead of Superheroes. Bring it. It's just as well that this Version is Going to be Adventure rather than Horror, which Seems More in Line with a Reboot of the 1999 Version than the 1932 One. We still Have a Strong Preference for the Classic.
