Toyota the Latest Automaker to Investigate Hover Car Concept

You Can Blame 'The Jetsons' for the Far-Fetchedness of the Whole Hover Car Concept but, the Technology is Not Something to be Sniffed at. In Fact, a Toyota Executive Went on Record Yesterday to Say that, the Company has been Investigating the Concept of Floating Vehicles. Hiroyoshi Yoshiki Told Reporters at Bloomberg's Next Big Thing Summit in San Francisco that, rather than a Free-for-All in the Skies, the Japanese Automaker is Looking at Ways to Reduce Friction by Getting the Car "a Little Bit Away" from the Road. In a Nutshell, Think of How a Hovercraft Works. Toyota is No Stranger to Innovation in the Auto World — Afterall, it is Behind the Prius, the Highest-Profile Hybrid Car on the Planet. (Did you Know that, the Prius has Got a Little Brother ? ;-)) The Firm's iROAD Concept Trike-Slash-Car-Slash-Commuter Pod Beat Google to the Punch by a Year, although it Lacks the Grand Vision behind Mountain View's Self-Driving Concept.

Google Recently Admitted Defeat on the Jetpack Front so, its Grand Projects might Benefit from the Experience of a Mainstream Carmaker like Toyota. But, could a Floating, Hovering, Bumble Bee of a Car Work Away from Both Science Fiction and Futuristic Cartoons ? Well, if you were to Combine the Self-Driving Aspect that Google's Project X Department is Betting on so Heavily (Given that Earlier Iterations of Google's Self-Driving Technology were Tested Out in Toyota Priuses), Maybe a Collaboration between Both Firms would Work. Toyota could Put All of its Smarts into the Hovering Aspect of the Vehicle, while Google could Bring its Self-Driving Software to the Table to Prevent the Inevitable Collisions that would Occur without Physical Roads or Traffic Signs. That Way we Won't Get Wannabe Buzz Aldrins Crashing into Other Hovercars.
